About the event

Visit to deep SpainALBARRACÍN & TERUEL

Do you want to get to know the most traditional and authentic side of Spain? Come with us to discover the deep Spain.

With SoyErasmus, you can continue travelling Spain and discovering the most beautiful and most typically Spanish areas. For this trip we will travel to the Aragon region to see the famous Mudejar art and the interesting history of the city of Teruel.

It’s no wonder that its Moorish artistic heritage has been recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage.

Another joy of Teruel and Albarracín is the food. Despite being so close to Valencia you will find food and dishes that you are perhaps not used to seeing and they will make you fall in love with this small city.

We would reccomend the famous ham from Teruel, which thanks to its special climate has a flavor and texture thatplaces it among the best in the world.

The city of Teruel has its own Romeo and Juliet story. At the heart of the story is the love of the two youngsters – Isabel de Segura and Diego de Marcilla who lived in the 12th Century – and it is based on true facts.

The love story of Isabel and Diego is as sad as it is beautiful: the young couple fell deeply in love and dreamed of getting married. However, the parents of the girl had their own ideas about marriage. They dreamed of a husband who was financially successful for their daughter and they told the boy he could only marry their daughter if in five years he managed to accumulate a fortune. But just on the last day of the five years they married Isabel to a nobleman of Teruel. Diego returned to the city the same day, he came to the wedding but died of sorrow and sadness. The following day, Isabel who was so unhappy to see his tomb, also died.

The young lovers were buried together and the people of Teruel dediced to honour their memory by building them a mausoleum. Here in their coffins of alabaster and bronze there are sculptures of the lovers holding hands. Nowadays you can visit the Mausoleo de Los Amantes de Teruel which is a very interesting monument.

The trip will be complete with a visit to the mountains of Albarracín and the village of Albarracín, a small fortified medieval refuge in the mountains where time seems to have stood still.

The entire are has been a National Monument sinces 1961 and it’s hoped to be considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

In the surrounding areas there are five rivers, one of which is the Tajo, one of the biggest and most important in the Iberian Peninsula.

If you want to spend an incredible day with your friends, come with us to live this exciting adventure that you will never forget !!
