About the event
Situated in the south of Aragón region, Teruel is an ideal city to visit and enjoy its interesting museums, unique Mudejar - style architecture, delicious gastronomy, among other things.
What´s interesting in Teruel?
📍 Teruel Cathedral is part of four churches recognized by UNESCO as part of the World Heritage Site Mudejar Architecture of Aragon. This 12th century cathedral was built in the ornate Mudejar style, and is one of the best examples of this type of architecture in Spain.
📍 The Los Arcos Aqueduct of Teruel, a work of the period of the Roman Empire which still exists today, that carried water to the city center which was also medieval and, today the city still has several buildings from that time.
📍 Plaza del Torico (The Little Bull) - It’s a small statue of a bull that’s located in the town’s main square, the Plaza del Torico. El Torico is Teruel’s good luck symbol, so no visit to Teruel is complete without seeing him.
📍 La Torre de El Salvador Recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Site, this tower is major attraction amongst the Mudejar-style architectural patrimony of Teruel.
📍 La Escalinata, possibly the most impressive monument of the city is La Escalinata with its steps. Built in neomudejar style at the beginning of the 20th century, it reminds the modernist architecture you can see in Barcelona, like the building of Hospital de Sant Pau, for instance.
📍 St. Pedro’s Church and its tower . St. Pedro’s Church (Iglesia de San Pedro), which reflects several architectural periods. The Tower of St. Pedro’s Church was built of brick in which pieces of ceramic were embedded. It’s worth checking out the tiles in the exterior and also the magnificent altar from the Renaissance period.
📍 The Steps call Stair Ovalo is one of the most beautiful sights of the city, somewhat resembles the same building style of the Plaza de España in Seville.
📍 Teruel Lovers Mausoleum. It is the most visited attraction in the city because of the love story between Diego and Isabel, protagonists of beautiful and legendary love story, no lover should miss, a well-known story by the Spanish.
Albarracin, pronounced “ahl-vahr-rah-THEEN” [al.βa.raˈθin], located in the western of Teruel, is a small village that seems to have been taken from a fairy tale and which, according to Spanish people, is the most beautiful town in the whole country.
This spectacular and impressive Historical Site is perched on a rocky hill surrounded by a fantastic medieval wall which, in a perfect condition, climbs the rock in an unforgettable natural environment.
Albarracín has been a National Monument since 1961. This amazing town has everything a visitor could wish for: an impressively preserved old town centre, ancient stone walls that run the length of the village, the famous Torre del Andador tower, and the ruins of an old Moorish “Alcázar” fortress, all surrounded by the Sierra de Albarracín countryside, a stunning natural wonder to behold.
There are many other monuments of interest in Albarracín. The most important is the Alcázar, a medieval fortified castle from the Taifa period that was built in the eleventh century. There is also the Cathedral of San Salvador, from the 16th century, the old Episcopal Palace, the Church of Santa María and the Plaza Mayor with its town hall.
A great reason to visit Teruel and Albarracín is its food. In particular, naturally curing legs of ham—jamón de Teruel, the gazpacho, the oxtail stew and the delicious Arabian donuts stand out. This is on top of magnificent local products such as the famous artisanal cheese from the Sierra de Albarracín and mushrooms from its forests.
