The Island of Nueva Tabarca 🗺🏖

It is the only inhabited island in the Valencian Community, but it was uninhabited - although Berber pirates sometimes took it as a base - until Carlos III repopulated it in the 18th century with Genoese citizens rescued from their captivity on the island Tunisian from Tabarca, where the name comes from. Its fascinating history and incredible natural heritage make it a must see for visitors of all kinds.

Tabarca is one island yet many at the same time. It is both bustling and quiet, with beaches and coves in which to lose yourself. It is just a stone’s throw from Alicante, yet comfortably cut off from the outside world.

Things to Try while there 

Don’t miss the chance to try the tasty Caldero Tabarquino, an exquisite rice dish made with stock from fish caught in the bay of Santa Pola.

Follow the wall that surrounds the town and enjoy the beauty of the water breaking against the base. Visit the gates of San Rafael.

It is a must to discover and enjoy its ocean floor. The best places for diving around Tabarca are: La Muralla, located just before the port area, it is a shallow area where you can see large shoals of fish such as Barracudas!

This boat ride will take 45 minutes, which gives you enough time for some pictures of the beautiful beaches and to get a breath of fresh air. 🌵 Once we arrive on the island, we will get an optional tour through the island to the Natural beauties it holds. During this tour you will walk 5 kilometers and explore a lot of beautiful nature on the island. 🏝️ After this amazing tour you will be able to explore the island on your own, or to enjoy its perfectly white beaches. The island gives a great opportunity to enjoy your time as it has many places which are worth seeing. 🥽 You will be able to join the optional snorkeling. The area surrounding the island has been declared a marine reserve, so the water is crystal clear. Perfect for admiring all kinds of beautiful marine animals with your mask and snorkel.
