A circular route named Peña Cortada about 14 km crosses beautiful bridges and caves on the Ruta del Agua.

Peña Cortada (which means Cut Rock) is perhaps one of Valencia’s most popular hiking routes and it’s no wonder why. There are not many places in Spain where you can walk through rock-cut tunnels, crevices and bridges which once upon a time would have gushed with water to sustain a whole Roman city. In Peña Cortada we will find the most impressive building the Roman aqueduct of La Peña Cortada which is one of four main aqueducts of the Iberian Peñiscula. We will walk through it. After Peña Cortada we will continue the route onto the picturesque village of Chelva. 

Chelva is situated in the interior part of the province of Valencia.  The origin of its name is a Roman word, “silva” which means a jungle. This lovely village was declared a Place of Cultural Interest in the Historical Complex category because it keeps up four districts of different cultures that inhabited this land: The Arab, The Moorish, The Jewish and The Christian quartiers. 

After Chelva we will go down to the river and follow the River Walk (Ruta del Agua). The “Water Route” is a pleasant walk following the course of the river. Coming along the path next to the Chelva river we will find beautiful waterfalls and a recreation area for the picnic.

SCHEDULE OF THE TRIP:

10:00 - 11:30: from Valencia - Chelva (the bus will leave at 10:15)

11:30 - 16:00: hiking in Chelva & Ruta del Agua 

16:00 - 17:00: free time in Chelva

17:00 - 18:00: from Chelva back to Valencia
